Corvette Z06x Track Car Concept

Chevrolet is unveiling the Corvette Z06x Track Car Concept at this year SEMA motor show. The Z06X track car concept, to be created by Chevrolet teamed with Pratt and Miller, will showcase Chevrolet’s expanding portfolio of performance parts to create a full-on track car.

The Z06X concept is based on the Corvette Z06 with the 1LZ equipment package, along with the Z07 Performance Package and CFZ Carbon Fiber Package. The 2011 Z06 with the Z07 package includes carbon ceramic brakes and Magnetic Ride Control, while the CFZ package offers body components that enhance aerodynamic down force on the race track, including a front splitter.

The concept vehicle wears a low-gloss Icy White Metallic exterior color, accented with exposed carbon fiber body components and red trim. The interior features a racing seat, window net and roll cage-mounted camera system. It includes a racing pedal kit, a Genuine Corvette Accessory.

Performance of the Z06x Track Car Concept is guaranteed by LS7 7.0L V-8 engine and Tremec six-speed manual transmission, with low-restriction air intake system and high-capacity radiator and enhanced cooling system. The Z06X uses lightweight racing wheels in black; 19-inch (front) and 20-inch (rear), paired with Michelin racing tires.

Q7 family. The Q7 3.0 TDI offers 150 kW (204 hp) while consuming an average of just 7.2 liters of diesel per 100 km (32.67 miles per U.S.gallon) – better than all direct competitors. At the same time, a 3.0 liter V6 drives this large SUV powerfully and smoothly. An eight-speed tiptronic and quattro permanent all-wheel drive round out the luxurious drivetrain.

The new V6 TDI in the Q7 is a high-tech engine. It weighs far less than 200 kilograms (440.92 lb) and extensive measures minimize internal friction. Innovative thermal management – a new feature of many Audi engines – is particularly complex in the 3.0 TDI. The crankcase and the cylinder heads have separate cooling water circuits; coolant is not circulated within the block while the engine is warming up.

The EU 5 classification for this new entry model in the Q7 family will come as no surprise, just like its high fuel efficiency. On average, it needs 7.2 liters per 100 km (32.67 miles per U.S. gallon). And its CO2 equivalent is just 189 grams per km (304.17 grams per mile) – no other large SUV from a European brand boasts such a low value. The efficient TDI delivers 150 kW (204 hp). Its maximum torque becomes available just above the idling point: 450 Nm (331.90 lb-ft) remain constant between 1,250 and 2,750 rpm.

This large SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 9.1 seconds. In the version with an optional air suspension, it reaches a top speed of 205 km/h (127.38 mph); with steel suspension, 202 km/h (125.52 mph).

The Q7 3.0 TDI with 150 kW (204 hp) offers the same power transmission as all other models in this line. The new and efficient eight-speed tiptronic – with its high overall gear ratio – delivers torque to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive, which has a sporty rear-end bias. Double wishbones made of aluminum guide all four wheels; the chassis delivers great agility and stability. An off-road mode and a hill-descent assistant aid off-road driving.

With a wheelbase measuring 3.00 meters (9.84 feet) and an overall length of 5.09 meters (16.70 feet), the interior offers plenty of room. Audi offers the Q7 with five, six or seven seats. The luggage compartment offers as much as 2,035 liters of capacity (71.87 cubic ft). This new entry model’s standard equipment package includes two-zone deluxe automatic air conditioning, a high-beam assistant, and an MMI radio multimedia interface.

Despite a generous equipment package,Justify Full this model line’s new entry model costs just 51,800 euros in Germany. This basic price makes the Q7 more affordable than all of its direct competitors.

Japan to Build World’s Fastest Train: A 310MPH Maglev Monster

China and Japan have been constantly trying to outdo each other when it comes to high-speed rail. Now, the Central Japan Railway Company has announced that it plans to build the world’s fastest train. The train, to be completed in 2027, will travel between Tokyo and Nagoya on a 178 miles rail extension line, estimated to cost about $64 billion. The speedy train will run up to 310 miles per hour, cutting down the hour and half long journey by 40 minutes — the current line runs at about 167 miles per hour.

To gain additional speed, the new rail will use magnetic levitation — where powerful magnets elevate the train above the track, cutting down friction. The current high-speed record is held by a Chinese passenger train that traveled 302 miles per hour (486 kilometers per hour) during a test run on a still unopened line between Beijing and Shanghai. The results are as interesting as they are fun, and propose personal vehicles unlike any seen before. The Volkswagen cars we’ll be driving 20 years from now will be sustainable, tailored to fit personal needs and bring a whole new driving experience to the road.

They begin with one simple idea: to make vehicles as friendly as possible, and as easy to drive. To that end, they have produced 3 concept vehicles, and have updated the little VW Up!. The vehicles shown range from the Room, a family vehicle; the Ego, a two seater; and the One, a single rider urban vehicle.

All of them are fitted with technologies which are staples of science fiction, but are not quite possible yet - at least not in the mass produced scale which is required for them to be economically feasible. Think fully electric vehicles powered by the sun; vehicles that drive themselves, fitted with an all encompassing internet; cars that can tell the mood that you are in, and which are able to speak to other cars in the road.

It is a bit too far fetched, and at the same time, extremely exciting look at what the future will look like. Now if we could now start focusing on how the cars are made.

The Acura CSX is Acura's entry-level luxury car exclusively designed for the Canadian market. The CSX is the first Acura model with two predecessors, the Integra sedan (1986-1996) and the EL (1997-2005). Like the EL, it is only available in Canada and built in Alliston, Ontario, Canada.

The CSX is not a rebadged JDM Honda Civic, rather Honda Japan chose the Canadian-designed CSX as the template for the JDM Civic. The CSX shares some features with the JDM Civic, most notably the 2.0 L DOHC i-VTEC engine rated at 155 hp (116 kW) at 6000 rpm and 139 ft·lbf (188 N·m) at 4500 rpm. Also shared with the JDM Civic are the front and rear fascias and the steering wheel (also used in the USDM Civic Si and Euro Civic).

Standard features on the 2009 CSX base model include leather interior, automatic climate control, paddle shifters for automatic transmission models, heated front seats, integrated turn signals in power door mirrors, chrome door handles, moon roof, USB device connector, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and vehicle stability assist (VSA) with traction control.

The CSX Technology Package adds Acura Navigation System with Biligual Voice Recognition, Handsfree Link (Wireless Bluetooth Mobile Phone Interface), MP3/WMA CD player & Digital Audio Card Reader, high-intensity discharge headlights, fog lights, and XM Satellite Radio with roof antenna. The navigation system and HID headlamps are among the features not available for regular Honda Civics sold in Canada.

The resulting car is 62 kg (140 lb) to 88 kg (190 lb) heavier than the Civic EX sedan, with fuel consumption raised to 8.7 litres per 100 kilometres (32 mpg-imp; 27 mpg-US) city, 6.4 litres per 100 kilometres (44 mpg-imp; 37 mpg-US) highway for manual model; and 9.5 litres per 100 kilometres (30 mpg-imp; 25 mpg-US) city, 6.5 litres per 100 kilometres (43 mpg-imp; 36 mpg-US) highway for automatic model. Pacquiao came out on fire with lightning fast punches, absolutely annihilating Hatton, who looked like he had no idea what hit him. Hatton went down twice in the first round, and FanHouse scored it a 10-7 round for Pacquiao.

And although Hatton showed great courage in coming back in the second round and continuing to fight, Pacquiao savaged him with just seconds remaining in the second, knocking him out cold and leaving him flat on his back. The fight ended 2 minutes, 59 seconds into the second round. After taking some time to recover, Hatton got up and did not appear to be seriously injured.
"That was my strategy, left hook and right hook, that was going to be the key to this fight," Pacquiao said in the ring afterward. "I expected my right hook to be dangerous for him."

Pacquiao showed against Hatton that he is the most dangerous man in boxing. He's the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, and right now -- even though Floyd Mayweather is back -- there's no question about that.

Flu Crisis In Mexico: Gov't Decrees Special Powers

MEXICO CITY - Mexican President Felipe Calderon issued an emergency decree on Saturday giving the government special powers to run tests on sick people and order them isolated to fight the deadly flu crisis.

Mexico City has already shut schools and museums and canceled sporting and cultural events as an outbreak of a new type of swine flu killed up to 68 people in the country and spread north to infect some people in the United States.

Saturday's decree, published in Mexico's official journal, gives the government power to isolate sick people, enter homes or workplaces and regulate air, sea and land transportation to try to stop further infection.

The flu has rattled residents of Mexico's overcrowded capital of some 20 million people.

Calderon tried to calm Mexicans earlier on Saturday, saying the flue was curable. He said health authorities easily had enough antiviral medicine for the 1,000 or so people suspected to be infected with the swine flu and that his government was monitoring the situation "minute by minute."

Tests on Saturday showed eight New York City schoolchildren had a type A influenza virus likely to be the same type as the Mexican flu, adding to nine people in California and Texas who tested positive for it, although they later recovered. Two swine flu cases were also confirmed in Kansas.

The World Health Organization declared the outbreaks a "public health event of international concern" and urged all countries to boost their surveillance for any unusual outbreaks of influenza-like illness and severe pneumonia.

The agency stopped short of raising the threat level to a pandemic -- a global epidemic of a serious disease.

What is Swine Influenza?
Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza virus that regularly causes outbreaks of influenza in pigs. Swine flu viruses cause high levels of illness and low death rates in pigs. Swine influenza viruses may circulate among swine throughout the year, but most outbreaks occur during the late fall and winter months similar to outbreaks in humans. The classical swine flu virus (an influenza type A H1N1 virus) was first isolated from a pig in 1930.

How many swine flu viruses are there?
Like all influenza viruses, swine flu viruses change constantly. Pigs can be infected by avian influenza and human influenza viruses as well as swine influenza viruses. When influenza viruses from different species infect pigs, the viruses can reassort (i.e. swap genes) and new viruses that are a mix of swine, human and/or avian influenza viruses can emerge. Over the years, different variations of swine flu viruses have emerged. At this time, there are four main influenza type A virus subtypes that have been isolated in pigs: H1N1, H1N2, H3N2, and H3N1. However, most of the recently isolated influenza viruses from pigs have been H1N1 viruses.

Melanoma, which begins in cells called melanocytes, is the most deadly form of skin cancer. Current approaches to treating melanoma include the use of conventional therapies, such as radiation therapy and chemotherapy, or stimulating the immune system to inhibit cancer growth.

In a new study released today, researchers have shown that a specific protein plays an important role in inhibiting the development and spread of melanoma tumors in mouse and in human skin models. Increased expression of the protein, SOX9, may also decrease the resistance of melanoma cells to retinoic acid, which is used to treat several other types of cancer. The ability to increase sensitivity to retinoic acid by stimulating SOX9 expression could lead to new approaches for treating melanoma and other cancers. The study, led by researchers at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health, appears in The Journal of Clinical Investigation.

The Hummer H2 is an SUV and SUT manufactured by General Motors under the Hummer brand. It is a large truck (lighter and slightly slimmer than the Hummer H1, while slightly longer and slightly taller) with room for six passengers (including driver). The rearmost part of the H2 SUV was modified to a pickup truck bed for the 2005 H2 SUT ("Sport Utility Truck").

The H2 is built under contract by AM General at a specially constructed plant in Mishawaka, Indiana, USA. Although it shares GM's GMT820 truck platform with the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon, those vehicles differ in many ways and are constructed in three other GM plants. The H2's final frame assembly is made up of 3 sections: The front uses a modified GM 2500-Series utility frame, the mid-section is all new and is completely boxed, and the rear section uses a modified GM 1500-Series frame which is upgraded for the 8,600 pound (3629 kg) gross vehicle weight. The 2008 Hummer H2 does 0-60 in 8.2 seconds.

The H2 has a massive truck frame and has a wider-than-average track firm that may offer stability against overturning compared to some of the more common light truck SUVs, although objective tests have not been performed by the government or other outside parties due to its specialized vehicle class. It is marketed as both a general purpose vehicle and as an off-road vehicle. Because of mass marketing by GM, it is primarily used as a passenger vehicle on typical roads. Along with the Ford Excursion, the H2 is also a very common vehicle for a limousine conversion.

The Hummer H2 is also prominently featured on CBS' CSI:Miami, driven mainly by the supervisor of the day shift of the Miami-Dade Police Department crime lab (Lt. The Hummer H1 is a civilian off-road vehicle based on the M998 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV, or Humvee), which was created by AM General. The vehicle was produced from 1992 through 2006, and was the first of what became the Hummer line.

Originally released in the civilian market in 1992, the Hummer H1 owed its birth to the popularity of photos from Operation Desert Storm and the enthusiastic campaign from actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who personally owns several variants of Hummer vehicles. GM announced that 2006 would be the last model year for the Hummer H1, with production winding down in June 2006 due to a new emission law for Diesel-engine vehicles which took effect in 2007.

The Hummer H1 has three common variants: a convertible-like soft top, a four-door hard top pickup truck and a Wagon body version. Other less known variants include a two-door pickup truck and a four-door slantback. The convertible/soft top and the station wagon versions were the last ones available in the mass market. The two door and four door pickup versions are only available in fleet livery.

Currently, five engine types and three automatic transmission types can be found in Hummer H1s. The common engine/transmission combinations are:

All Hummer H1s and HMMWVs come off the same assembly line, and then civilian H1s get painted and finished in a separate building across the parking lot.

The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or Humvee) is a military 4WD motor vehicle created by AM General. It has largely supplanted the roles formerly served by the M151 1/4 ton MUTT, the M561 "Gama Goat", their M718A1 and M792 ambulance versions, the CUCV, and other light trucks with the United States military, as well as being used by a number of other countries and organizations.

The HMMWV uses independent suspensions for high ground clearance, and has an axially delivered central tire inflation system. The vehicle also has disk brakes on all 4 wheels, and 4-wheel double-wishbone suspension. The brake disks are not mounted at the wheels as on conventional automobiles, but near the differentials to protect the brake lines.

There are at least 17 variants of the HMMWV in service with the United States armed forces. HMMWVs serve as cargo/troop carriers, automatic weapons platforms, ambulances (four litter patients or eight ambulatory patients), M220 TOW missile carriers, M119 howitzer prime movers, M-1097 Avenger Pedestal Mounted Stinger platforms, MRQ-12 direct air support vehicles, S250 shelter carriers, and other roles. The HMMWV is capable of fording 2.5 ft (76 cm) normally, or 5 ft (1.5 m) with the deep-water fording kits installed.

Optional equipment includes a winch (maximum load capacity 6000 lb (2700 kg)) and supplemental armor. The M1025 and M1043/M1044 armament carriers provide mounting and firing capabilities for the MK19 grenade launcher, the M2 heavy machine gun, the M240G/B machine gun and M249 SAW. The newly introduced M1114 "up-armored" HMMWV also features a similar weapons mount. In addition, some M1114 and M1116 up-armored and M1117 Armored Security Vehicle models feature a Common Remotely Operated Weapon System (CROWS), which allows the gunner to operate from inside the vehicle, and/or the Boomerang anti-sniper detection system. Recent improvements have also led to the development of the M1151 model, which is quickly relegating the previous models obsolete. By replacing the M1114, M1116, and earlier armored HMMVW types with a single model, the U.S. Army hopes to lower maintenance costs.

The eighth-generation of the Honda Civic was introduced in 2005 as a 2006 model. Trademarks of this generation include its futuristic sleek body, and its "two-tier" instrument panel. In many countries (USA, UK, New Zealand), all models (including the base model) come standard with power windows, anti-lock brakes (ABS), and side/curtain airbags (for a total of six airbags). Additionally, the 2006 models acquired ULEV-2 (Ultra Low Emission Vehicle) certification and boast a more powerful 1.8 litre engine than the 2005 counterparts while retaining almost equal fuel economy.

Acura (Japanese: アキュラ, Akyura) is the luxury vehicle division of Japanese automaker Honda Motor Company. It primarily competes with Buick, Lexus and Infiniti among others in the luxury vehicle segment. The Acura brand has been used in the US, Canada, and Hong Kong since March 1986 to market Honda's performance vehicles and near-performance vehicles. The brand was introduced to Mexico in 2004 and to China in 2006. The Acura brand will be introduced in Russia at the end of 2008. Honda plans to introduce Acura to the Japanese domestic market (JDM) sometime around 2010. Honda’s second generation Honda Fit, known as the Jazz in the Philippines, has won the prestigious 2007-008 Japan Car of the Year Award (JCOTY). The All-New Honda Fit has lived on with the tradition as its predecessor grabbed the same title of JCOTY in 2001-2002.

JCOTY is an annual award given to newly released or redesigned vehicles available at the Japanese market. The award has been around since 1980. Jurors are primarily composed of Japanese automotive journalists. The Honda Fit has bested over nine other models. Among JCOTY’s 60-member panelists, the Honda Fit has generated a total of 374 points, 75 points ahead of its nearest competition.

The keys behind Honda Fit’s triumph are good design and space, matched with strong driving and environment-friendly performance. Since year 2000, Honda has won five of the last eight annual awards with the addition of Honda Fit’s victory.
